Africa Van Java, Baluran National Park

Baluran national park is special area located in Situbondo regency, East Java - Indonesia. It has consist unique landscape such as forest, mountain, valley, savana and beach. Its territory is bordered by the Madura strait to the north, the Bali strait to the east, the river Bajulmati (Wonorejo village) to the west and the river Klokoran (Sumberanyar village) to the south. 

The Baluran name is taken from the Baluran mountain located in its area and the park life itself represents java island biodiversity. It has variety of unique forest such as: ever green, homogenize, climate forest, mangrove and savana. And the savana is one of the special landscape called "Bekol" and well known as "Africa van Java". In the other area, Baluran park also has two colors of beach- the white and black sand beach. The most popular beach is located in the east of Baluran area called "Bama".  Within Bama beach, visitor can do various activity such as snorkeling, swimming and boating. Please be aware of ape activity which aggressively attack against human attendance.

 

 

Baluran park also as a home of 26 mammals species including protective "Banteng" (Bos javanicus javanicus), Wild bull / Kerbau liar (Bubalus bubalis), Ajag (Cuon alpinus javanicus), Deer / Kijang (Muntiacus muntjak muntjak), Rusa (Cervus timorensis russa), Panther / Macan tutul (Panthera pardus melas), Kancil (Tragulus javanicus pelandoc), dan Kucing bakau (Prionailurus viverrinus), 155 birds variety and 444 floras such as local  widoro bukol (Ziziphus rotundifolia), Mimba (Azadirachta indica), dan Pilang (Acacia leucophloea).

Thus, many interesting trip or tour activity can be done within the Baluran area such as scientific researching with prior of permission, enjoying wild life at the Maduranese cottage and serving by European or Indonesian cuisine, villas and lodges for rent up to 20 group visitors, playground at the savana or camping in Sumberwaru village and watching towers that are usually used to observe the animals' behaviors and the region surroundings (visitor may bring a pair of binocular or telescope to have better views and look). Baluran also has information center and a small museum where located in the entrance of the park operated by the Forestry Conservation Region Office.

Travel Advisor Transportation (Trip/Tour Tracking) & Cost:

• Banyuwangi: from city center go to Batangan (it is about 35 kilometers) then continue to Bekol and Banyuputih.The location is in the main road of Surabaya - Bali (north route). So it will be very easy to find. For your comfort you may use rent car or travel agent. The cost is vary depend on your deal.
• Bali: the Baluran national park can be reach from main road Bali - Banyuwangi - Situbondo - Surabaya. 
• Surabaya: same above, it take about 5 - 6 hours trip by rent car / van.
• From the entrance gate of the Baluran national park, the trip can be continued using motor service "Ojek" it cost about 80.000 IDR, if you prefer walk to reach the first post, please do it in the morning and mind your trip. You may face wild life while on your walk tracking. Night tracking is not allowable.
