The Syahbandar tower is an old tower which has constructed as life guard in the area of Sunda Kelapa port - in west of the port entrance or at the east of the maritim museum. The tower had been functioned as traffic guide and controlling all the trading commodity from the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) warehouse to the port. The Syahbandar tower built in 1839 and also has about 12 meters high. It was the highest building in Batavia at that time and constructed at the corner of Ciliwung river.
The Syahbandar tower equipped with several big cannons which faced to the west and east side. The other two buildings constructed each other to Syahbandar Tower by Netherlands Indies government as administrative part before delivering the spicy to Europe countries. And it took important building within the area.
The Syahbandar tower is one of the silence grave part from the package of historical buildings within Jakarta area. It has connected to the Kota Tua, The old bridge of Kota Intan, The VOC warehose and the Maritim Museum. The tower has become a symbol of powerful Netherlands Indies government forced. The Syahbandar tower can be reach easily from Kota Tua by walk or bike rental. It is a part of historical vacation package in Jakarta, Indonesia.
